Week 4: Educational/Instructional Video

This is the course introduction video which connects to the terminal learning objective: "By the end of the (course, lecture, exercise, etc.), the learner will be able to write a five-paragraph academic essay in the correct structure including introduction, conclusion, and body paragraphs, thesis statement and topic sentences."  I plan to put this into module/section 1 of the course. Module 1 includes both an introduction to the course itself and also an introduction to essay structure in general.

The client for this course consists of teenagers or young adults who are applying to universities in English or who already attend an English-speaking university. Some of these students need help in writing their university application essay and others are already in university but may be unsure how to correctly write essays.

I made my video using slide and recording function on PowerPoint and then exported it to MP4. In addition to the closed captioning, I added the transcript to the description of the video and as a PDF next to the video on this page.

Regarding design, I used a standard font in black with a white background for the greatest amount of contrast. I used the bee stickers as decorative markers to help keep the students' attention and to mark the change in slide. The bee stickers I found in PowerPoint's stock images and they are free to be used without attribution including for commercial purposes.

The creative commons license is on the first slide on the video and it is: CC BY-NC-ND 4.0

In this process I learned the value of editing and that 4 minutes is a really short amount of text! I also learned how to organize the visual aspect of the video so that it is easy to follow, without too many distracting elements
