MicroLearning Project

In week 7 we needed to create a microlearning project. Look below for my submission!

The Tool

The tool I chose was Canva because it is a really powerful tool for creating many different static and dynamic materials for course/instructional design.

Here is a link to Canva: https://www.canva.com/

Example Product:

There are three products I have made with Canva for this course. The first is an example material for this week called "How to Use Canva," the second is my infographic about constructivism, and the third is my "Learning Theories Comparison" chart.

Learning Theories

While making my first few projects on Canva, I utilized a lot of connectivism, andragogy, and social constructivism.

Regarding connectivism, one of the main premises is that learners seek out information from various "nodes" within their network (especially online) (Western Governors University, 2021). At the beginning of learning how to use Canva, I searched for information online from various "nodes" including YouTube and other online tutorials. I also asked my sister for her advice since she had briefly used Canva previously (Another "node" although not online).

Andragogy was of course included in my learning process because I am an adult and my orientation to learn was focused towards seeking out knowledge for my problem focused issue (McMillan, n.d.). My learning was internally motivated because I wanted to have greater mastery over my new tool and I drew upon my previous experience in other web/technology based programs to help me learn how to use Canva effectively.

Lastly, I utilized Social Constructivism by looking at how my classmates had used Canva (and other programs) to gain inspiration for how I could further increase my technical and design abilities. This helped me reach my greater potential within my zone of proximal development (McLeod, 2019).

My biggest "aha" moment would be when I learned how to duplicate graphics and text in Canva. This saved me a lot of headache trying to resize the same graphic element as well as changing the font size, style and color.
